Research with Yawuru

People interested in undertaking land and sea research on Yawuru Country are required to follow the new Kimberley Saltwater Country Research Protocol developed through the Kimberley Indigenous Saltwater Science Project (KISSP).

The aim is to collaborate with researchers and research institutions using products developed through the KISSP.  These tools and protocols were developed to improve the way science involving researchers and traditional owners is planned, undertaken and assessed in Kimberley Saltwater Country.

The protocol consists of:

  • A guide for researchers – This guide steps researchers through the process of developing, planning and implementing research projects with Kimberly saltwater communities. Please read this Guide to Collaborative Science on Kimberley Saltwater Country first before contacting us with your research idea.
  • An online proposal form – The new protocol has been developed with the input of most Kimberley saltwater groups and numerous western scientists. It applies to all research on natural and cultural resources occurring on the lands or seas of Kimberley saltwater people. Once you have contacted us with your research concept, use this form to submit the research proposal.

Proposals must be submitted to NBY for in principle support at least 8 weeks prior to the commencement of the activity.
